Actions in the Magistrates’ Court, the Sessions Court, and the High Court.
A civil action may be filed in the Magistrates’ Court, the Sessions Court, or the High Court. The Magistrates’ Court and the Sessions Court do not have jurisdiction over certain matters, whatever the amount claimed. In some matters the Sessions Court has unlimited monetary jurisdiction.
There are two High Courts: the High Court of Malaya and the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak. Their jurisdiction is territorial. Civil proceedings are governed by the Rules of Court 2012.
